What is narTcert?

The NAR Rocket Teacher Certification Program or ‘narTcert,’ (said in three syllables: nar – T- cert.) is a program that gives teachers the skills and confidence needed to lead students in building and flying model rockets. “narTcert” is for any NAR member who is a professional classroom teacher with or without a science/math background, an educator teaching an after-school program, a home schoolteacher or an informal educator with a youth organization. Not a NAR member? Join HERE! NAR has been training teachers for decades; this program is a standardization of the learning process to help teachers and rocketeers work together.

Why be in narTcert?

  • NAR narTcert certified teachers are recognized as knowledgeable and qualified persons who conduct launches, organize rocket classes, STEM clubs and support rocket competitions such as ARC (American Rocketry Challenge) and RFTS (Reach for the Stars)
  • Teachers have the opportunity to be granted continuing education units by contacting their local school systems. If you wish to seek continuing education units for the completion of narTcert please consult with your supervisor before registering for narTcert.
  • Educators are instructed in subjects such as rocketry technology, building, launching, safety, funding and more.
  • Formal and Informal educator community is available.

What does narTcert cost?

The narTcert is included in your NAR membership. You will, however, need to buy a rocket and launch supplies which may cost $20-$45. Your local NAR Section may provide some assistance with parts and materials.

NARTCERT can be completed in a few easy steps!

1.) Go to the Members dropdown menu and choose the Continuing Education tab.

2.) Choose the NARTCERT Credential, click Apply. Follow the registration process. Once you have registered, you will receive an email with links to both the course and the test. It can take up to 15 minutes to receive this email.

3.) If you are not high power certified: Build and launch a model rocket. Locate a NAR member or local Section to witness your launch by using the NAR club list. If you are high power certified: Email a copy of your digital membership card to us.

4.) Create a lesson plan (lesson plan template) and send it to us. Looking for a sample lesson?

5.) Study (using the study guide) and take the narTcert test with a 80% score.

6.) After your successful launch and lesson plan submission you will receive your certification.
