US Team Selection Flyoffs
The flyoffs to select the U.S. Team for the 2025 World Championships in Zrenjamin, Serbia will be held in conjunction with NARAM-65 (Pueblo, Colorado) August 3-5, 2024. These flyoffs will be run as described in the Bulletin #1 attached below.
The U.S. Team is selected by a competitive flyoff process that is open to all NAR members. New participants are warmly welcomed! This website is designed to provide all the information on designs and construction techniques needed to enable new participants to be competitive.
Two teams of three persons (four if at least one is female) are selected for each of the eight events of a WSMC. The Junior team is for fliers who will not have reached their 19th birthday by the end of the calendar year of the WSMC. The Senior team is for fliers older than this.
Participants must register specifically for the flyoffs and must also register as NARAM participants as well, either as weekend "sport fliers" or as all-week competitors. The flyoff is held at NARAM on the opening weekend prior to NARAM's first day of competition, in odd-numbered years.
Those who wish to compete for a spot in the following events must establish their eligibility to compete in the flyoffs by conducting and submitting qualification flight scores in that event between January 1 and June 30, 2024. The number of people who may compete in the flyoffs in each of these events will be limited and eligibility to compete will be based on the ranking in scores in these qualification flights. The procedures are described at https://www.nar.org/wsmc-scoreboard/ and in Bulletin #2 below.
- S1B Altitude
- S3A Parachute Duration
- S4A Rocket Glider Duration
- S6A Streamer Duration
- S9A Autogiro (Helicopter) Duration
Flying at the flyoffs will be per FAI rules (and NAR Safety Code) with the following exceptions:
- Because fliers are not supported by recovery teams and the NARAM flying fields are not always large enough to support recovery of FAI "max" flights, for S3/S4/S6/S9, fliers are permitted to enter one model per round and are not limited to the FAI rules limit of two models for three rounds.
- For S7, judging is done on a "good" model. Flight(s) may be done using a "boilerplate" model.
- S5 must be flown with altimeters. Adrel altimeters must be used. They will be available at the flyoff.
- Only NAR safety-certified motors that are on the list of motors approved for this flyoff (see Bulletin #1 below) may be used.
No individual is permitted to be on the US Team at the WSMC for more than two events. If a flier qualifies for more than one event based on flyoff performance, then that flier gets to select which event he/she will fly in. Further selections are at the discretion of the FAI Activities Committee. No one will be selected for the team who did not participate (fly) in the team selection flyoffs.
Additional information is provided in the "Team Bulletin" for each team cycle. The bulletin for selection of the 2025 team is posted below.
